You, Me and a Cup of Tea

Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, 2 February 2017 to 19 March 2017

Papillon has been selected to exhibit in a group show entitled You, Me and a Cup of Tea
at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery in 2017. Curated by Zoe Blandford, both installations
that comprise Papillon will span across two adjoining rooms, Gallery One and The Vault.
Also in Gallery One will feature artworks by three nationally selected artists and ten local artists.

In Flight will suspend from the ceiling in both rooms of The Vault, while
In the Light of Truth will be on display in Gallery One.

You, Me and a Cup of Tea draws together wonderfully rich and diverse artworks that pay tribute to the role that tea plays in our daily lives. The exhibition’s key artists include Beverley Budgen, Denise Faulkner, Susan Gourley and Kim Schoenberger.

Curated by Bundaberg Regional Galleries’ Exhibition Officer, Zoe Blandford, the show also includes 10 of the regional artists, invited to reinterpret a familiar Australian biscuit. You’ll see everything from the humble milk arrowroot in Betty Searle’s Smoko to the playful ceramic Road Testing the Pineapple Tim Tam by artist Caryl Plant. Other local artists include Clinton Cross, Shane Foley, David Graham, Julie Hylands, Marlies Oakley, Paul Perry, Caryl Plant, Betty Searle, Adrienne Williams and Jo Williams, each selecting a biscuit to showcase their individual art practice.

You, Me and a Cup of Tea includes a stunning installation of 1869 recycled tea bags that form a kaleidoscope of butterflies by Kim Schoenberger, along with Denise Faulkner’s watercolours in whimsical compositions that combine some of Bundaberg’s beautiful birds with fine china.

A second installation of delectable French-inspired patisseries by artist Susan Gourley poses questions around consumerism, and Beverley Budgen’s interiors help us reflect on the ageless and age-old social importance of meeting for tea.
